The fourth consecutive sold-out edition for Inkcarceration Music & Tattoo Festival 2024 was held July 19-21 at the historic Ohio State Reformatory in Mansfield, Ohio, welcoming 75,000 music fans for three days of music, tattoos and haunted attractions. The event brought in more than $10 million in economic impact to the area, and more than $50 million in total since the first year in 2018.
In addition to three packed stages with non-stop music and more than 100 tattoo artists, there were Blood Prison Tours and walkthroughs of the famous Ohio State Reformatory, the filming location for Shawshank Redemption. Headliners Shinedown, Godsmack and Breaking Benjamin delivered high-octane sets with Breaking Benjamin inviting a special guest: Benjamin Jackson Burnley V, the young son of lead singer and guitarist Benjamin Burnley, who played guitar and sang.
Halestorm and I Prevail offered an exclusive performance at Inkcarceration, with Lzzy Hale and Eric Vanlerberghe guesting in each other’s sets for their hit track, “Can U See Me In The Dark?” Metal band Chimaira made their first U.S. festival appearance in 14 years and All Shall Perish played one of only two reunion shows. Additionally, The Offspring, Bad Omens, Parkway Drive, Chevelle, Dropkick Murphys, Sleeping With Sirens, Killswitch Engage, Hollywood Undead, Machine Head, Sevendust and Of Mice & Men offered blistering performances throughout the weekend.
Metal Injection said of Inkcarceration: “Entering its sixth year, the annual Inkcarceration Music & Tattoo Festival made a vibrant return, infusing Mansfield, Ohio with a spectacular blend of visual and auditory art, set against the evocative backdrop of the historic, now-closed Ohio State Reformatory. Rock, metal, and body art have been intertwined since the dawn of time, and Inkcarceration is the ultimate celebration of the two colliding in an explosion of self-expression.”
Loudwire added, “Fans more than got their fill across the weekend, enjoying more than just music. The campgrounds found attendees forging bonds with new friends. Grilling outdoors and even watching movies on a projector were just some of the fun activities back at camp. And, of course, with other experiences including the Blood Prison tour and a host of tattoo artists permanently inking the bodies of rock and metal fans, it truly was an experience for all.”
“Danny Wimmer Presents continues to have a profound impact on the domestic rock festival landscape. The 2024 roster for Inkcarceration Music and Tattoo Festival reaffirmed the annual gathering at Historic Ohio State Reformatory as one of the premiere destinations for rock and metal of the year. Building on the momentum of three consecutive sold out years, the fest made its triumphant return with a three-day stretch that showcased a mammoth collection of performances spanning all styles of heavy music,” added Knotfest.
And local paper Richland Source said, “Inkcarceration 2024 is in the books, leaving an indelible mark … on the 75,000 headbangers who stormed in over the weekend.”
Additional Inkcarceration activations included The Whiskey Bar presented by BLACKENED, Bud Light Seltzer, Middle West Spirits, and Take Me Home, plus programming for the festival campgrounds including Rock Capitol Live Band Karaoke, a special screening of I Stand Alone: The Sully Erna Story Documentary and performances from Southbond Beretta, Hannan, Influence, Heathensun, The Convalescence, Fight from Within, The Behest of Serpents, Lydia Can’t Breathe, Zakk Cash and Titans in Time.
The 2025 festival dates for Inkcarceration Music & Tattoo Festival will be announced soon.
