When duty called, he answered, serving with the F-14 Squadron (VF-84) aboard the Theodore Roosevelt Aircraft Carrier and later with the Assault Craft Unit Two in Cleveland. Bailey deployed twice to Iraq and Kuwait (1993 and 2008), defending our nation’s freedom with unwavering commitment.
After returning home, Bailey channeled his passion for music and his experiences as a veteran into Today’s Boondoggle. The podcast combines his love for heavy metal music with candid discussions about real-world issues, seen through the lens of a veteran who dedicated two decades to serving the United States. “The name Boondoggle comes from a moment during my 2008 deployment in Iraq. I had a knack for dodging desk work and scoring off-base missions. One day, my Senior Chief asked, ‘What kind of boondoggle are you going on today, Bailey?’ The name stuck as a tribute to that camaraderie and my knack for finding adventure!”
This playful nod to military slang captures the podcast’s spirit: a mix of humor, rebellion, and storytelling that’s as bold as a heavy metal riff.
